House Will Vote Tomorrow on Nancy Pelosi’s Bill Legalizing Abortions Up to Birth

The U.S. House of Representatives is set to vote Friday on the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which will essentially codify Roe v. Wade, and then some, thus enshrining a so-called right to an abortion into federal law. While the legislation has been introduced for several congresses, it is gaining traction now that Democrats are in control of the House, Senate, and White House. Democrats have also become emboldened after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed for a Texas abortion law to go into effect which restricts abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, at around six weeks.
The legislation has support from the White House as well as the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), according to Alex Gangitano’s reporting for The Hill. During the 2020 campaign, now President Joe Biden communicated support for codifying Roe, which was also mentioned on his campaign website.
Pro-life organizations are warning of the steep ramifications in that it will overturn pro-life success.
The text of the bill itself reads that “A health care provider has a statutory right under this Act to provide abortion services, and may provide abortion services, and that provider’s patient has a corresponding right to receive such services, without any of the following limitations or requirements,” before going on to list numerous examples of pro-life regulations and restrictions on abortions.
It also states that “this Act supersedes and applies to the law of the Federal Government and each State government…”

Commentary from Melanie Israel at the Heritage Foundation highlights how it amounts to more than just codifying Roe. She writes that the “egregious mischaracterization… understates just how radical the proposal actually is” and warns that the legislation “goes far beyond the already permissive regime permitted under America’s existing abortion jurisprudence.”
New York legislature votes to legalize abortion up to birth, let non-doctors commit abortions
ALBANY, New York, January 22, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Both chambers of the New York state legislature voted Tuesday on legislation to enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion in state law and eliminate protections for preborn babies until birth, in votes set to mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
The state Senate voted 38-24 in favor of the so-called “Reproductive Health Act” Tuesday evening, the Albany Times-Union reports, a bill that has repeatedly cleared the state Assembly in years past but been blocked by the formerly-Republican Senate. Following the Senate vote, the Assembly passed it 92-47.
The bill declares that “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion,” erases the state’s recognition of preborn babies older than 24 weeks as potential homicide victims, removes abortion from the penal code entirely, and allows licensed health practitioners other than full doctors to commit abortions.
“We have a president who’s made it very, very clear that he wants to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins declared before the vote. “Today, here in New York, we are saying no […] and we’re not just saying no. We’re saying that here in New York, women’s health matters. We’re saying here in New York, women’s lives matter. We’re saying here in New York, women’s decisions matter.”
The Times-Union suggests the bill would allow “late-stage” abortions only if the mother’s “health” is endangered or if the baby is deemed non-viable, but the New York State Right to Life Committee warns that the bill would go much further in practice.
Declaring abortion a “fundamental right” opens the door to invalidating “any limits on abortion” and “mandat[ing] that everyone take part in the culture of death,”

If you have more than two children, likely someone has asked you one of the more embarrassing and awkward questions: “Don’t you know what causes those?”
At times I’ve wanted to answer, “No. Would you be willing to explain it to me?” But the truth is, as a mother of five living children and one that died in my womb, I do know what causes those little humans to exist. Just like I know what caused the person who asks such a question to exist. God does.
Often it isn’t the children themselves that bother onlookers, but the impracticality of having so many that gets under their skin. They want to know if the kids share rooms, what the grocery bill is like, how we plan to manage college, and most importantly, why we would subject ourselves to so much work.
Queen of Heaven
The people of Judah were just as practical and pragmatic concerning children as people of today, but in an opposite, though just as idolatrous, way. The book of Jeremiah has some terrifying words for them. Jeremiah, God’s chosen prophet, warns them over and over of their evil ways, but they are undisturbed. They defy his warnings,
“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster.” (Jeremiah 44:16–17)
The queen of heaven — that nonexistent goddess of fertility and love on whom God’s people had set their hearts — was requiring offerings. What did she desire aside from their complete devotion? Drink offerings and fancy cakes with her face on them. The Lord called such idolatry and sacrifices an abomination (Jeremiah 44:4).
Elective Infertility
Picturing the women of Judah foolishly and sinfully baking cakes for their female fertility idol (Jeremiah 44:19) ought to stir our hearts and have us wondering where the finger should be pointed. If sacrifices of drinks and cakes to a false goddess of fertility kindled the Lord’s anger to the point that he forbade Jeremiah to pray for the people (Jeremiah 7:16), then what must God think of a society that has made child sacrifice normal for the sake of elective infertility?
What must he think of a society that goes to such great lengths to do away with children, only to go great lengths to acquire other children when the time is right?
Many worship the false queen of heaven in her cloak of personal autonomy.
While some celebrities “shout” their abortions, actor Corbin Bernsen said the abortion of his unborn child was nothing to be proud of
Known for his roles in “L.A. Law,” “Psych” and numerous other hit shows, Bernsen said the “worst day of his life” was the day when he and his wife had their unborn child aborted, according to The Christian Post.
Now a devout Christian, Bernsen shared the story this week during the National Religious Broadcasters Christian Media Convention in Florida.
“My wife and I had our first child, we were madly in love as I am today, and loving it. ‘L.A. Law’ was happening and I was like, ‘Let’s have another baby,’” he told the crowd. “She had just quit her career as an actress and [was] loving the whole family thing.”
Everything changed with their second child. Initially, Bernsen said they were excitedly preparing a nursery and going to checkups. Then, not long after finding out they were having a son, the doctors gave them some bad news.
“We go in for our last trimester checkup and the doctor looks at us and he says, ‘We have a little problem, the amniotic fluid is not forming, the kidneys of the baby are disappearing,’” he remembered.
“A couple days later, we return and he says, ‘I’m going to give you some very bad news. I’m not God and I can’t tell you for sure but I’m 99.99-and-a-tenth percent this baby would not make it to term and even worse — Amanda (my wife) there’s a danger to your health,’” Bernsen continued.
Living Abortion Victims Speak Out
On this dark anniversary of Roe v. Wade we’ll hear from some of the voices that abortion could not silence.
Melissa Payne—pregnant with her second child—was traveling with her family when her water broke. Her baby girl was just under nineteen weeks old—far too young to survive outside the womb.
But God was preparing to work a miracle in the Payne family.
Doctors told Melissa that she would have to deliver the baby within the next three days—which certainly meant the little girl would die. Even if they continued the pregnancy, a specialist gave the baby only a five percent chance of survival. And, Melissa was told, even if the baby did survive, she would be so handicapped that she would be a tremendous burden on the family.
But Melissa and her husband, Kevin, refused to give up on their daughter. They found an obstetrician who was willing to help them complete the pregnancy, if such a thing were possible. But even this doctor didn’t offer much hope.
As Melissa told LifeSiteNews, “Every day I was on bed rest I would feel her kicking and moving, and at the same time I would go to the doctor and they’d just frown and nod.”
Friends from church bathed Melissa and her baby in prayer for seven weeks. And then came an emergency Cesarean. Graceanne Payne arrived in the outside world at just 26 weeks gestation. She weighed one pound, twelve ounces.
Graceanne was kept on oxygen ventilation for six weeks, and spent a total of ninety-seven days in the neonatal intensive care unit. And then, her parents joyfully took her home.
Now you may be wondering: What about all those dire predictions that Graceanne would be born with a big batch of handicaps and be a burden on her family?
Well, Graceanne, who is now over a year old, is perfectly normal. Her mother says she has met all of her age-adjusted developmental milestones.
I wanted to tell Graceanne’s story today—the 42nd anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision—for an important reason. Neonatal specialists keep pushing back the age of survival for babies born sooner than they should be. Many babies now survive premature births.
Other babies survive, not premature births, but efforts to abort them. I was shocked to find out recently that some 44,000 people have survived attempts to kill them through abortion—enough to populate a small city. You can read their stories on their website—The Abortion Survivors Network. One survivor, Ana Rosa Rodriguez had her arm torn off by an abortionist in 1991; she’s now a healthy young woman (except for that missing arm).
I am deeply saddened by the President’s praise of abortion. 55 million abortions is a Holocaust. We face implosion.

UPDATED: Since 1973, Americans have had more than 55 million abortions. Unless we change course, the number will soon be 60 million.
Consider the horror of that fact. We as a nation will soon have murdered ten timesmore Americans than the number of Jews that the Nazis killed during the Holocaust.
How is this possible? How have we come to this point? The murder of 55 million human beings is a Holocaust.
We must call it what it is. We must be honest with the facts, and the implications.
This must stop. We must stop it, before it is too late — before we face implosion, or judgment, or both.
What do we think we come of all this? Will we not face the judgment of the Almighty God, unless we cry out in true repentance to the Lord? Did we not see the judgment that came upon Germany in World War II, the devastation and destruction? Do we expect to suffer less when our sins are ten times worse?
I am deeply saddened today by President Obama’s statement praising the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision of 1973 legalizing abortion.
“Today, as we reflect on the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, we recommit ourselves to the decision’s guiding principle: that every woman should be able to make her own choices about her body and her health,” the President stated. “We reaffirm our steadfast commitment to protecting a woman’s access to safe, affordable health care and her constitutional right to privacy, including the right to reproductive freedom. And we resolve to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and continue to build safe and healthy communities for all our children. Because this is a country where everyone deserves the same freedom and opportunities to fulfill their dreams.”
Mr. President, how is abortion-on-demand a “safe and healthy community for all our children”?

This past week featured two annual remembrances in much of the evangelical world: “Sanctity of Life Sunday” and the Martin Luther King, Jr. public holiday. Some churches, like Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, have long made the two days a period of intense focus on the protection of life and racial reconciliation.
It’s an important juxtaposition orchestrated by divine providence. If Dr. King were known for anything it would be the protection of human life and dignity. We think of him as the great Civil Rights captain marching his troops to justice. But in every step of his march was the firm conviction that all men are made in the image of God and created equal. Had he not held that more foundational belief, along with a deeply biblical conception of love, it would be difficult to imagine so sturdy a fight for equality and inclusion. Those twin commitments have rightly made him an American hero, an icon representing the best of American ideals.
So, it’s worth asking: What would Martin Luther King, Jr. think about abortion?
There are many who will no doubt pronounce with unwavering certainty that, “Dr. King would have….” Some will say so with all the moral authority that comes from having “knew Dr. King” or “marched with Martin.”
To be clear, abortion came later, a few years after Dr. King’s murder. So, Dr. King himself never spoke publicly to the issue. Any “definite” pronouncements are most assuredly speculations and extrapolations.
But if he were consistent with his principles of love and justice it’s inconceivable that he would have favored the practice of killing unborn children in the womb.
Catholic Bishop Slams Nelson Mandela’s Legalizing Unlimited Abortion as “Shameful”

A Catholic bishop in the United States is taking exception to the unrestricted praise the world is heaping on deceased South African president and civil rights leader Nelson Mandela, calling his signing a bill to legalize unlimited abortions “shameful.”
The bishop of Providence, Rhode Island, Bishop Thomas Tobin, criticized “Mandela’s “shameful promotion of abortion in South Africa.”
“Many people around the world and in our own nation are mourning the loss of former South African President Nelson Mandela,” Bishop Tobin commented in a statement. “Indeed there is much to admire in Mandela’s long life and public service, particularly his personal courage and his stalwart defense of human rights.
“There is part of President Mandela’s legacy, however, that is not at all praiseworthy, namely his shameful promotion of abortion in South Africa. In 1996 Mandela promoted and signed into law the ‘Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Bill’ that, according to the New York Times, ‘replaced one of the world’s toughest abortion laws with one of the most liberal.’”
Tobin continues: “While we pray for the peaceful repose of President Mandela’s immortal soul and the forgiveness of his sins, we can only regret that his noble defense of human dignity did not include the youngest members of our human family, unborn children.”
In their statement at the time of his death, the bishops of South Africa also pointed out that not all of Mandela’s legacy is positive.
“As with all people he made mistakes and had shortcomings — we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (cf. Romans 3:23),” wrote Archbishop Stephen Brislin, president of the country’s episcopal conference. “Thus, we commend him to the Lord and pray that he will rest in peace. May perpetual light shine on him.”
John Smeaton, of the British pro-life group SPUC, offers this documentation about Mandela’s pro-abortion views. He writes as a Catholic but the comments are instructive of all pro-lifers to praise the good things Mandela did but to keep in mind he did not respect human life before birth.
Obama: I “Wont Give Any Ground” Defending Unlimited Abortion

President Barack Obama made it clear, yet again, that he will not yield when it comes to promote and supporting abortion on demand for any reason throughout pregnancy.
Appearing at a conference of liberal bloggers in New York City, Obama pledged “not to give any ground” when it comes to the issue of abortion.
“Millions of young women have coverage through their parents’ plans. They are beginning to gain access to contraception at no additional cost. I’m not going to give any ground to those who would deny women their own health care choices,” he told the liberal bloggers at the Blog Her event. “Women should have control over decisions that affect your health, your lives, your careers.”
According to a Washington Times report, Obama “then pivoted to a completely political plea, arguing that women who share his beliefs about their control over their health care needs and their lives couldn’t face a bigger choice this election.”
The comments from Obama came on the same day he met with officials from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion business, immediately after exiting Air Force One today at a campaign stop in Florida.

The two women, Jenna Cawley Tosh and Nancy Wolf, were part of a group that greeted Obama on the tarmac as he stepped off Air Force One. Obama “spent time talking with each” before moving on to work a rope line, according to a White House pool report. Tosh and Wolf are President/CEO and Board Chairwoman of Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando, respectively.

The Story: Last week at the Texas Capitol, pro-abortion protesters shouted, “Hail Satan!” in an attempt to drown out pro-lifers’ rendition of “Amazing Grace.” But on Twitter the United Kingdom’s Church of Satan said it was “Unfortunate to see Satan’s name used in such a diabolical manner.”
The Background: Texas blogger Adam Cahm, who recorded the video below, says, “For the record: They’ve been doing this all day, this is just the first time we caught it on video.”
After the story broke, the UK Church of Satan tweeted

They later added:
Why wouldn’t Satanism be pro-life? What else is there? We are all free to make choices. Agreeable or not. Everyone is entitled to choice.
What It Means: It’s doubtful either the abortion supporters chanting “Hail Satan!” or the Satanists denouncing them believe in the reality of the Evil One. They think the abortion issues is about them, and their choices. But they’re wrong: abortion is about God.
As John Piper has explained, the ultimate evil of abortion is not that it kills children or that it damages women—which it does. “The ultimate evil,” he said, “is that it assaults and demeans God.” But that, he says, “is what the gospel of Jesus Christ is about. How God planned and brought about a plan to forgive people who have committed the ultimate outrage of discounting his glory and treating it as less valuable than their own private preferences.”
Piper continues by stating that leaving God out of the picture trivializes abortion.
