Prayer is not “a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.”
A Prayer of 2014 Liberation
He (Jesus) went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:”The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,to set the oppressed free,to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:16-18
Dear Lord Jesus, I’ll never tire of meditating on this incredible passage, for I remain in constant need of its promise, provision, and hope.
Jesus, I’m one of the spiritually impoverished, no, bankrupt people for whom you came; and, likewise, I am one of the ill-deserving people upon whom you have lavished the riches of the gospel. Hallelujah, I shout, many times over.
Jesus, I’m one of the prisoners, whose home was the hoosegow and morgue of sin and death, until you raised me from the dead and set me eternally free. I praise, bless and adore you, for so great a salvation. May the liberating power of grace expand its transforming dominion, in every sphere, relationship, nook and cranny of my life.
Jesus, I’m one of the blind people to whom you came to give sight. Continue to heal the astigmatism and myopia of my heart. Let me see more of you and see you more clearly, that I might see everything and everyone else through the lens of the gospel.
Jesus, I’m one of the oppressed and oppressors you came to set free. On the cross, you have exhausted the judgment I deserve. I am no longer guilty before the face of my thrice-holy God… hallelujah, many more times over.
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you”
(Isaiah 26:3)
It is possible to move men, through God, by prayer alone.
Prayer lays hold of God’s plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit’s prayer.
“A man is powerful on his knees.”
~ Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983)
Brothers and sisters in Jesus, we need to be desperate for revival!
Do we pray for revival every day?
Our churches and our nation (USA) needs God to send genuine spiritual revival!
Amen?
But there’s a power, which man can wield
When mortal aid is vain’
That eye, that arm, that love to reach,
That listening ear to gain.
That power is prayer, which soars on high,
Through Jesus to the throne,
And moves the hand which moves the world,
To bring salvation down.
~ J. A. Wallace, quoted by Arthur Wallis, In the Day of Thy Power, p139
The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.
