Doesn’t revival mean “new life”? It seems strange to suggest that you must first cross out your self. But your selfishness is the thing causing the dryness in you, the lack of life. That’s why it must be cross out before you can have revival!

(Festo KivengereWhen God Moves in Revival, 12).

Self-centeredness is the greatest enemy of spiritual life. All is not well so long as the center of your personality is occupied by that little god. It’s too little to be your god. It can’t occupy the throne. The throne is for him who died in love for you–I mean God in Jesus Christ. when self is on the throne, it is conspicuously out of place. It is too weak to meet your needs, too small to satisfy your hunger, too dry to quench your thirst.  Revival begins by putting a line through the I which at the center and turning it into a cross. (Festo KivengereWhen God Moves in Revival, 11).

You can be orthodox and at the same time dead! Religious phrases and biblical language don’t make a person alive. You can stock your head with the most evangelical vocabulary and be the driest Christian on earth–until God moves (Festo KivengereWhen God Moves in Revival9).

“The evangelization of the world in this generation depends first of all upon a revival of prayer.”

~Robert Speer

In a real sense, revival is the only hope for our nation and this whole generation. If it doesn’t come, then most of our other strivings will ultimately be in vain. If the church is enveloped in revival, however, then we will be receiving from the Holy Spirit virtually everything that matters to see Christ sufficiently exalted in our land and among many peoples.

(David Bryant in Revive Magazine, Winter 2012, 8)

Revival, according to J. I. Packer is…

Revival is God accelerating, intensifying, and extending the work of grace that goes on in every Christian’s life!

When God comes in revival, He accomplishes in a brief time what would normally take many years!

(Byron Paulus, Executive Director of Life Action Ministries, quoted in Revive magazine, Winter 2012, 3).

Dr A. T. Pierson said,

“There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer.”

“Revival is waiting for us on the streets. It is hiding from us in nursing homes and prisons. It is calling to us from foreign fields and obscure places. Crying, yearning for even one person that will rise from the confines of normality and pursue it. One person that will approach the throne of grace with boldness and expect a miracle. That will stand on a street corner and wait for its shadow to pass by. Knowing that at any minute the wind that blows where it listeth may touch down in that very spot. Exploding, expanding everything that it touches. Revival is a fire. And souls are its kindling.”

~Chad Taylor

A spiritual awakening is no more than God’s people seeing God in His holiness, turning from their wicked ways, and being transformed into His likeness.
