Doesn’t revival mean “new life”? It seems strange to suggest that you must first cross out your self. But your selfishness is the thing causing the dryness in you, the lack of life. That’s why it must be cross out before you can have revival!
Self-centeredness is the greatest enemy of spiritual life. All is not well so long as the center of your personality is occupied by that little god. It’s too little to be your god. It can’t occupy the throne. The throne is for him who died in love for you–I mean God in Jesus Christ. when self is on the throne, it is conspicuously out of place. You can be orthodox and at the same time dead! Religious phrases and biblical language don’t make a person alive. You can stock your head with the most evangelical vocabulary and be the driest Christian on earth–until God moves (Festo Kivengere, When God Moves in Revival, 9).

In a real sense, revival is the only hope for our nation and this whole generation. If it doesn’t come, then most of our other strivings will ultimately be in vain. If the church is enveloped in revival, however, then we will be receiving from the Holy Spirit virtually everything that matters to see Christ sufficiently exalted in our land and among many peoples.

A spiritual awakening is no more than God’s people seeing God in His holiness, turning from their wicked ways, and being transformed into His likeness.
